Neglect of sewer system maintenance in developing countries has often led to health crises. In an effort to avoid such future occurencies, municipal corporations have adopted the more effective 'preventive' approach using mechanised methods of sewer cleaning. These methods are in line with practices adopted worldwide.

IPWT have been pioneers in introducing mechanised drainage maintenance equipment and technology into India over the past three decades. IPWT's efforts have been appreciated not only within prime metros of our country but also worldwide, a cover feature in the November 1995 issue of 'Global Sanitation' magazine bears testimony to this fact.
